When The Trees Spoke

"Hey mom! Look what they are saying on the news!" said Kevin, an eight year old. "Yes, what is it?"said his mom. "Look!" said Kevin excitedly.
"The war is over, its time to celebrate! With only 3491 robots destroyed, we have successfully won the war. The bad news is that the gases released have affected the trees in that area and the trees have started making small grunts. Hopefully they will be cut down soon and the problem will be solved. Now we shall see the weather report by Sunny Richards."said the news anchor.
"Mom, will they cut down trees?"asked Kevin. "Yes, they probably will. They take up so much space, and now they are making weird sounds. It sounds like a good plan to me." said his mom. "But, our science teacher says that we should plant more trees instead of cutting them down,"said Kevin. "Rubbish. Trees are useless." said his mom, with  a tone of finality in her voice. She didn't want her only son to become a crazy environmentalist.
                                                            5 YEARS LATER
"Lets go talk to Olive!"said Kevin, to his friends. "You are so boring, Kevin. All you want to do is talk to those stupid trees. The new Trees vs Aliens 2 game just released today! We are going to my house to play it, my dad bought it for me."said Tim,Kevin's friend, and ran off to his house with Jimmy and John, the twins. Kevin sighed and walked towards Olive, the olive tree. "Hello, Kevin." said Olive, in her deep voice. "Hi, Olive. said Kevin. "I have to tell you something. The trees have decided to go on a hunger strike. We are very angry at how humans have treated us, and now we wont supply them with oxygen. We may die ourselves, but they shall pay for their actions unless they fulfill our needs." said Olive. "But, how will we survive? Humans can stay without oxygen for about a minute or so. When the oxygen gets used up, what will we do? We will all die before anyone gets to know what you want!" Kevin said. "That is why I need your help. Tell anyone with authority what we are going to do. When they come to investigate, we shall tell them our plan and wants. Hopefully, they shall agree, as no one wants to die, right?" said Olive. "Okay, I will be right back. But if they don't listen.....?" asked Kevin. "Then we will proceed with our hunger strike. I am sorry Kevin, but, you will die too if that happens. You need to convince them, or the Earth will become a barren wasteland!" said Olive. Kevin nodded and ran off to his mom.
"Mom! Listen! The trees are going on a hunger strike! We have to tell everyone to listen to what they have to say!" cried Kevin. "Enough of your non sense, its time for dinner." said his mom firmly. "No! You have to listen to me! They will stop performing photosynthesis! We will all die!" said Kevin impatiently. His mom gave him a death stare. "Sit down, its time for dinner."  Suddenly the TV switched on and the emblem of the nation flashed across the screen. "A national message-this must be very important! Turn up the volume!"said Kevin.
"Secret spy agencies had revealed months ago that the trees had planned a conspiracy against us-  they are planning to go on a hunger strike unless we fulfill their needs.   Our scientists developed special oxygen creating tubes and artificially developed food. Do not fear the upcoming hunger strike. We are prepared. Workbots shall arrive at your house immediately after this message to install the above mentioned items. Precautions to take- NEVER GO OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE. Everything shall be provided at your doorstep. On a happier note, I think this hunger strike has made our lives much easier." said the voice of the President. The national anthem played and the TV switched off.
The door opened and 6 Workbots marched into the house. In a few minutes their work was done and the exited as quickly as they entered. Next, purple tomatoes, green carrots, square shaped onions, blue flatbread, a dozen dino-shaped eggs, pink oranges and 2 packets of red potato chips and black apple juice entered the house from a huge tube the workbots had installed- the artificial food. A disembodied voice said,"This is your food for the week. Use it well."
After about a month of living like this, almost all the small trees had perished. Only very big trees had survived, but wouldn't be able to for long without food. Inside their homes, everyone was getting irritated. No one was happy living in their homes, and not to mention all the tasteless food they had to eat. New diseases started spreading that doctors had no idea how to cure. People were dying. They were getting restless. The President too couldn't manage to live like this, and soon gave another message on TV.
"We have decided to ask the trees if they can stop the hunger strike. Everyone is dying. The animals in their specially controlled sanctuaries are killing each other. We are dying of new diseases. We ask for the help of anyone who thinks that the trees will listen to them. Oxygen masks are being provided to everyone so that they can talk to the trees."
Kevin was very happy. He was tired of being stuck in the house. A few oxygen masks were being ejected from another large tube. He strapped one on to his face and ran to Olive. "Olive," he said breathlessly. "Please stop the hunger strike. We are all suffering. Even you are very close to dying." "Yes, that is what the trees have been discussing," said Olive in a very tired voice. Just then, a helicopter landed. It was the president. "Please, trees, forgive us. We have messed up the balance of nature. Please stop this strike. We shall never treat you badly again." Soon the trees declared that they were in agreement. They would stop the strike. In 24 hours, everyone took off their oxygen masks. They all planted a tree, as they had learnt the importance of trees. Kevin hugged Olive. It was the best day of his life.

Once there was a boy named Fred...

Once there was a boy named Fred in Norway,
and he knocked Santa off his sleigh!
The reindeer seemed to say, 'oh, my!'
And Santa said, 'Ouch, my thigh!'

'You naughty boy! Come here and stand!'
'Don't run away, do as I command!'
And Fred seemed helpless; and there he stood,
he knew what was happening was definitely not good.

Santa picked up the boy with great ease,
and to him he said,
'Guess there's a present less to give today,
ain't there, little Fred?'

And then and there, with a wave of his hand,
Fred's present turned into a handful of sand.
So remember, this Christmas, don't  be naughty, but nice,
because maybe your present might turn into lice.

Ho ho ho.....

The Queen

The royal guard works all day
And works all night
To make sure the queen doesn't get a fright
And everything is perfectly right.

As the queen is better than the rest
She should always get the best.
Her every wish is our command
Because she is the one who rules our land.

The mighty king was just and wise
But due to his sad demise
The only one left to rule
Is the queen who's actually quite cool.

"No more of these silly gowns!
And someone, get rid of this heavy crown!"
The queen helped everyone in need
And never showed any signs of greed.

"Hurrah!" The people cheered. They loved their queen.
They promised to take care of her every need.

Pastries and pies,
Waffles with cream
Nothing but the best,
For Her Majesty, the queen.

Her food was brought on a silver platter
And the queen grew fatter and fatter.
Gifts from her subjects adorned her walls,
Royal tailors made her dress up like a doll.

One day, the Queen announced to the people of the land
"To show you my gratitude, all work shall be banned!
It will be like a holiday that never ends!
What are you waiting for? Go celebrate with your friends!"

All the people happily said,
"Yay! Lets never get out of bed!"

And that's when things got out of hand,
Because all work had been banned!
The farmer couldn't grow any crops
The candy seller couldn't sell any lollipops

No one could leave their homes anymore
The explorers couldn't explore
Even the doctors couldn't cure the sick
The magicians couldn't perform magic tricks

Soon everyone was starving,
Including the queen!
Now everyone thought

That the queen was really mean.

As the queen grew thinner and thinner,
She understood
That her law to ban all work
Was definitely not good!

The queen then canceled the law she made
And to her subjects she said,
"I'm sorry that I made such a big mistake,
But now you can get out of bed!"

The people cheered and realized
That the queen was not that bad
And then everyone got back to work,
Really, really glad.

Halloween

Dressed as witches,vampires or ghosts,
dozens of children walk down the dimly lit lane.
They knock on doors turn by turn,
waiting eagerly for a bunch of candy corn or maybe a candy cane.

The door creaks and opens as they cry,
Trick, or Treat!
With smiles on their faces they count the candy,
they have gotten to eat.

Their costumes dazzle in the moonlight,
their candy bags are stuffed with treats,
as they walk home, munching and tasting,
one or two of the delicious sweets.

At night,
when the moon is full,
and the stars  are twinkling,
children are asleep,
dreaming.....

Witches fly past their windows,
ghosts appear through the walls,
pixies zoom out of their closets,
scarecrows are playing with their balls...

Screaming, shouting, off they run,
with teddies in their hands,
awake, now, they leave,
all those magical lands.

April Fools!

I can't wait for tomorrow,
it's April Fools Day!
I've thought up a million pranks I'll try,
be prepared, I'm warning you today!

I'll drop a stink-bomb in the swimming pool,
I'll use some paint and 'redecorate' your favourite stool.
I'll juggle with your show-pieces-this is just a start,
I'll eat up your ice-cream and your pop tart.

I'll sneak up behind you,
and turn off the light,
I'll scare you until
you run out of sight.

I'll blame you for throwing
my cat out of the house,
I'll chase you away,
like some teeny-tiny mouse.

I'll draw graffiti on your walls,
I'll spray paint your door.
I'll empty your trash can,
all over the floor.

So now you have an idea,
of how my plans are like.
Don't worry, you have another day,
before I strike.

NO SALARY FOR YOU, SANTA......

Santa lived with his family, his wife,Cream Claus, his son Mint Claus and daughter,Candy Claus. One day, Mint Claus and Candy Claus started to complain. They said,"How come we do not get any pocket money even though we help you all year making and packing gifts?" Santa Claus was angry. He thought," When they were small, they were happy to help me. Now, I don't know what has happened to them!" Mrs Claus could see he was too angry to even speak. She replied instead of him. " Don't you understand? You should be happy to know that others are happy because of you. In giving we receive, remember?"

Mrs Claus stayed firm, only for a week, though. On her birthday, she didn't receive any gift - she was waiting for her gift all day. By the evening, she was boiling mad.She gave Santa a disgusted look.  But all that Santa said was "You know that it is December...I cannot afford to spend any money at this time of the year."Mint Claus and Candy Claus giggled.

A week before Christmas, Santa was checking if he had packed all the gifts and he realized that he forgot to make one present- a blackberry mobile. He looked at his own phone- it was the same model. He didn't have time to make a mobile, and he didn't want to give his own phone either. He thought,"It's not fair! I spend all year making and wrapping gifts and I don't even get any money! He called the 'Gifting Authorities' and told them that if they wanted him to work for them, they would have to give him money. The minister sighed. He knew that Santa and his family had forgotten all about the 'pleasure of giving'.

The minister sent his P.A. to Santa. At first Santa thought that the P.A. had come to give him his salary, but the P.A. said that he had come there to show them something. The P.A. showed them videos of the kids who had gotten the presents last year. The Claus family was delighted to see how many kids they had pleased. By the time the P.A. finished showing them all the videos, Santa and his family were ready to please kids all over the world again, only this time with double energy.

All Alone

She seemed like an angel when I first saw her,
I thought she was the perfect friend.
I thought the day would never come,
when our friendship would end.

We played together all day long,
we had so much of fun.
We had sleepovers at each other's house,
and played with her dog, Bun.

One day though, she announced,
that she was shifting away.
I gasped in horror as I realised,
we might never again meet or play.

Tears filled my eyes as I said goodbye,
and her car disappeared from view.
I clutched the teddy bear that she had given me as I thought,
"this is too bad to be true."

I don't know why, maybe no one liked me,
I didn't make a single new friend.
I felt very lonely and I felt like crying,
I felt as if in front of me, there was a dead end.

After 2 years, my friend came to visit,
and I was overcome with joy.
To my surprise she treated me,
like an old, forgotten toy.

I tore apart the teddy she had given me,
I clenched my fist as I thought about the attitude she had shown.
Then I strengthened up as I thought that I had to carry on,
even if I was lonely and all alone.

Soccer

I bought a brand-new photo frame,
to put the picture of the time I won the inter school soccer game.
I kicked, I blocked, I was certainly the best.
I made goals, I dribbled the ball and I outdid the rest.

When we won the game, my teammates cheered.
The girls of the other team made rude faces and jeered.
As if I didn't notice them, I smiled wide with pride.
The girls of the other team just stomped and cried.

The audience clapped,
my school flag flapped.
My teammates lifted me onto their shoulders,
when a few teachers came with a few folders.

They gave away the prizes with smiles on their faces,
and, finally, came the trophies in clear glass cases.
When I saw the shiny trophies, I was filled with glee;
to my surprise, there was a trophy, just for me!!!

True Friends

One fine day, I decided I wanted to go for a walk in the park. So I called my friend and asked her if she wanted to come with me. "Sure," she said. So we both headed towards the park. When we reached, we heard many girls giggling together. Then I saw who was making all the noise- Rina and her friends. They were very mean girls who were also very popular at school. They had a particular dislike for me and my friend. As soon as Rina saw us, her happy expression turned into an expression of pure hatred. All her friends started to whisper in each other's ears. My friend (whose name was Aditi) said, "Let's go from here. With Rina and her clique in the park we won't have any fun." Though I thought the same, I said, "No, let's stay here. Don't worry, she won't be able to spoil our fun." So we both ran towards the swings. "Oh, what luck! Today both the swings are free. We can swing together!" exclaimed Aditi. It was one of the rare occasions when both the swings in the park were free. Usually they were occupied and we had to take turns to swing. We both sat on the swings and had just started swinging when Rina came towards us. She said, " Hey , get off that swing. I want it. " "No, we got the swings first. You will have to wait for your turn," I said. " Don't mess with me. My father owns the company your parents work in. I can get them fired," said Rina, with a triumphant tone in her voice. " Well, your father doesn't own these swings. So we won't get off until we feel like it," said Aditi." I see. I shall see to it that your parents lose their jobs," said Rina and then went back to her friends. "What will I do, Aditi? Now my parents will lose their jobs!" I said. "Don't worry, we'll think of something," said Aditi, calmly. Just then we heard someone saying"Oh no!". It was Rina. We ran towards her. She was covered in mud! None of her friends dared to come near her. They were saying that she was stinking and they would get dirty too if they went near her. "Though Aditi and I did not like her, we were felt sorry for her.Rina, did you slip in that puddle?" I asked. "If you want some spare clothes you can get some at my house," Aditi said. " Thank you. Today I realised that you are my true friends. I am sorry about being so mean to you both," said Rina, looking at me and Aditi. " I guess that means we are friends now," said Aditi.Aditi and I took Rina to my house and helped her clean her dress. We also gave her spare clothes to wear. "Now that we are not enemies, let's celebrate by having a sleepover!" I said- and that's exactly what we did!

A Day Passing By

When the sun starts to give us light,
after the dark and gloomy previous night,
you can see clear, tiny dew drops,
on flowers, trees, grass and crops.

Soon the animals come out to hop and play,
giving the signal that it is day,
birds start chirping and start singing,
to wake us like an alarm ringing.

Newspapers then drop at our doorsteps,
and at this time you can hear many footsteps,
the traffic then starts increasing,
not showing any sign of easing.

Everyone then goes to office or school,
and starts to obey the discipline rule,
till it is time to go back,
with our heavy, backpack.

The light then becomes less and less,
and then its time to say goodbye to the day, I guess,
and when I see the stars in the sky,
I know that another day has gone by. . . .

A funny little furry ball

A funny little furry ball,
came up to me and said:
"For just one night can you give me
shelter, food and a bed?"

There was no harm in what it said,
so I went ahead and said 'yes'.
But I had made a big mistake,
because it made my house a great big mess!

I showed it a corner in my bedroom,
where it could easily sleep.
But instead of being thankful,
it had started to weep.

So I ended up giving it my own bed,
while I had to sleep on the floor.
I wondered why it only had to,
knock on MY home's door?

It ate, and ate, and ate,
and finished all the food I had got!
"For it's little, tiny size,
it eats way TOO much," I thought.

And, to keep it in my house all night,
what reward do I get?
a bathroom, kitchen, bed and wall,
all very, very wet.....

I was relieved when it left,
and locked the door as soon as it was gone.
After an hour I went back outside, and, hey,
it turned out that it had accidently toppled paint all over my lawn!

2012 Has Sprung Up!

2012 has finally approached!
And that means new fun for everyone!
A fresh new start to everything,
after important work in 2011 has been done.

It will be a great year,
you and me already know.
But one thing to keep in mind this year,
is to forget every foe and woe.

Now my birthday will come again!
All the festivals will come again too!
There will be new movies and songs,
and more theories shall be proven true!

Some people believe,
that this year the world ends.
But for now I will just celebrate new year,
with my best friends!

Circus!

I went to the circus
where I had lots of fun!
There were jolly clowns and acrobats,
who made me laugh a ton!

There were jugglers juggling balls with ease,
acrobats leaping here and there!
Soon elephants came in marching with pride-
there was a jolly atmosphere everywhere!

The clowns started making us laugh,
by doing some short skits.
We even got some free food to eat
like cotton candy and  banana splits!

 A few girls did ballet,
in a graceful way.
Then monkeys started to ride bicycles,
and  wonderful music started to play.

A magician showed us an astonishing magic trick,
 and there was much more.....
I started to wonder why,
I never went there before!

Mirror

Inside the mirror I can see,
someone who really looks like me.

If my hair are messy,
it shows me how they look.
When I can't decide what to wear,
I looked in the mirror and the decision it took!

If I am eating chocolate
and it smears on my face.
The mirror shows the exact point it is on,
and I can wipe it off that place.

The person inside the mirror I can see,
always seems to be helpful to me!

The Sun

I am bright and round,
golden and I shine bright.
I am the star of the day,
but I am never seen at night.

I have quite a big family,
which are the 9 planets which revolve around me.
Together we are the solar system,
and you study about me in astronomy.

From all these clues you might have guessed,
I am the mighty sun.
I make the day sunny and bright,
so you can have alot of fun.

When the day gets over,
and it is time for me to go.
You can see a beautiful sunset,
which has an extraordinary glow.

It has been a wonderful day,
and now it is time for the night.
But tomorrow when you wake up again,
once more I will be giving you light.

Diwali Fireworks

A sound of crackers fills the air,
and the fireworks glitter bright.
The joyous festival of Diwali is here,
it is really a beautiful sight.

Fireworks spring up like a jet of light,
in the dark, night sky.
They are so colourful and so bright,
they are some things which we cannot deny.

They look like an aerial waterfall.
BOOM! They disappear in a second- and that's all.
Everyone likes fireworks so much,
They are so bright, but impossible to touch.

The sight of a Diwali night,
takes your breath away.
I wish we could see things like this
everyday . . . .

Flower pots, fire crackers, Rangoli's,
are also a beautiful sight.
this is the beauty,
of a Diwali night.

I don't want to have a nap!

My bed is cozy,
my sister is sleeping happily.
The light is dim-
But that won't convince me!

I wonder who,
really wants to sleep during the day.
A day is to laugh, eat, talk,
sing, dance, run and play.

After all I have said,I don't know why,
my eyes start to close and a horn goes BEEP!
I wake up with a start,
And realize I was half asleep!

If you are sleepy,
I guess a nap is not so bad after all-
But you will not see me sleep during the day,
As I will be playing with a frisbee or ball. . . .

A Tree

Pushed underneath the ground,
I slept and slept without a sound.
One day, Mr sun woke me up,
Ms rain visited and I swelled up.

I broke through the seed,
and over me, the refreshing breeze blew.
But, before I could enjoy,
there was alot of work to do.

I had to make my roots strong,
before I could touch the sky.
My leaves had to grow fast-
as without food I would die.

YEARS LATER. . . . .

Now I'm a big tree,
laden with fruits.
Birds and animals shelter in me,
I am very strong with my big trunk and roots.

My branches spread wide-
my hard work paid off.
Because I am beautiful and big-
I just can't resist to show - off!

When  monkeys jump on me
I feel rather glad.
When others are unhappy,
I too feel very bad.

I like to see the children,
sitting under me for shade.
They wave goodbye to me,
after they have played.

The birds, animals and kids,
are my best friends.
I hope our sweet friendship,
never has an end!

It's a pleasure to make others happy,
and see a lovely smile on their face.
You should try it sometimes too,
and if you do, sadness shall never leave any trace.

Autobiography of a coin

I was a piece of metal,
dug deep underground.
Two busy workers found me,
in their factory I was cut round.

I fell asleep for a few hours,
and woke up in a dark place.
Then I was pulled out suddenly,
to see a chubby man's  face.

A lady smiled to see me,
and I was exchanged for a sweet without a word.
You would have known the lady was a shopkeeper,
but to me the whole event was totally absurd.

The lady put me in her pocket which had a rather big hole,
and I rapidly  rolled out.
I spun 2 times and landed in a gutter,
Yuck! I started to shout.

A gush of water came rushing through,
and the fast current lead me away.
I sighed and splashed and spluttered,
oh, when will be the end of this horrible day?

Oops!!! I didn't notice I landed on a dolphin,
Who leaped and I was away.
Where exactly had I landed?
On a warm, sunny, bay!

A boy picked me up,
and took me to his house.
There I saw stuff I never saw before,
a doll, a bangle, a mouse!

There, I saw a pink big thing,
it had a hole on top.
The boy pushed me through,
and in I went - PLOP!

There were so many other coins,
they were so friendly I was shocked.
Suddenly I looked up,
the small hole was blocked.

Another coin told me,
" Don't worry, your new 'home' is found.
This is a 'piggy bank' meant for coins,
come, I will show you around.''

" My name is Olive."
The little coin said.
Oh! We have to go now,
it's time for bed!

I stayed in the piggy bank for many months,
until one day disaster struck.
Olive and me were pulled out,
and were taken to an ice cream truck.

Me and Olive were put in a drawer,
and I bet you can't guess what happened next to me!
In the form of taxes, me and Olive were given,
to the president of America . . . . . Yippee!

I understood, that life is a game,
and you just have to learn to live with it.
You may soar high, up in the sky,
Or might end up in a muddy pit!

The autumn fairy

A red leaf,
a shimmer in  the sky.
Hey! Is that a bird or a butterfly?

From a twinkle to a fairy,
the little shimmer turns.
Looking at the ground,
she is counting all the ferns.

It's the autumn fairy!
She has a paintbrush in her dainty hand.
There is a shower of orange and red,
and the dry, red leaves fill the land.

She waves her wand,
flies through the air.
Whispers 'goodbye'
and slowly disappears.

The autumn scene is outstanding,
better than before.
Thank you little fairy,
I couldn't ask for more.

I have alot of homework,
so I should really get back to my sum.
I hope to see the fairy again,
in this pleasant autumn.
